How big is a Baby Grand Piano?
Believe it or not, but a baby grand piano takes up not much more room than an upright piano, the width is the same but a very small grand will only have two to three feet more depth

A Baby Grand Piano. Ornamental, Musical, Practical
At 50 years old I’ve had 11 guitars, a trumpet, countless harmonicas, 1 banjo, a 6 piece drum set, a digital piano 88 key, and more recently a roll up piano which can quickly be folded into your bag for those spontaneous musical moments. It all makes me sound like a musical genius, doesn’t it. Well, it’s not quite as it seems, as my passion to play all things well has left me as a mere wannabe musician.
Being able to play a musical instrument is a talent that many people wish they had. The piano is an elegant instrument and once you learn how to play it will stay with you for the rest of your life. Being somewhat of a musical failure, you can imagine how overjoyed I was when my 8 year old daughter showed a natural talent and a keen interest in the piano, and it wasn’t long before we were scouting the local classified ads looking for used pianos for sale.
Although a grand piano is the dream of many people who do play, it is a large and cumbersome instrument. Unless you have a very large space you simply won’t be able to accommodate one in your home.
A perfect alternative is a baby grand piano. A baby grand piano has all of the same features as a grand piano but just on a smaller scale. Many people choose to purchase a baby grand piano for their child as they begin lessons. This is a wonderful motivator for the child as they feel proud to be playing such an impressive instrument. The child will continue to play the baby grand piano as they mature. With proper care and maintenance the piano will actually last the child their entire life. We were very lucky to come across an ad in the local newspaper that read; Piano for sale. Piano baby grand in immaculate working condition. Unused, unwanted gift!
Purchasing a baby grand piano can seem like a daunting task especially if you’ve never bought a piano before. It’s not difficult though and there are several avenues available when it comes to buying one.
Many baby grand pianos can be purchased used like the one we found. People lose interest in playing or someone passes away and the piano sits quietly collecting dust, and unless it’s used it can take up valuable living space too.
It’s worth trying your local newspaper as it may be a good resource for finding a used baby grand piano. You’ll want to contact the person selling it and inquire about its condition and price. If you are impressed by what you hear over the phone you should schedule an appointment to view the piano. I’ve found that when it comes to buying used musical instruments, folks tend to be a little more honest about condition than say with the sale of a used car.
If you do choose to purchase a used baby grand piano you’ll need to contact a professional piano mover. Piano movers are unique in that they are skilled in moving pianos without causing any damage to the instrument, and the piano keyboards can be particularly fragile if not handled with care during the move. In fact, you should remember the check the piano keyboards carefully when inspecting the instrument.
Baby grand pianos can also be purchased at many music stores. In this case you may even be able to specially order the color of the piano as well as the piano bench. Although black is still the most popular color in baby grand pianos many people like the beauty of a white piano as well. Another benefit of purchasing from a music store is that they will be able to arrange delivery of the piano for you.
Like any musical instrument, it takes a good deal of time to learn how to play the piano well. Investing in a quality instrument will showcase your talent. It also spurs you to practice more when you have the baby grand piano in your home just waiting to be heard.
So, with a talented child always eager to get her enthusiastic little fingers working on the keyboard of her new baby grand piano, I guess we better pop down to the local music store and get her a new piano book or two so she has plenty of material to be going on with. I have to say, it is indeed a proud moment for any parent when an offspring shows a zest for music
